STORAGE FOR INDIVIDUALS

Organize Your Home in 30 Days

Dreaming of a tidier home and less clutter? Organizing your home doesn’t have to mean a whole weekend of deep cleaning.

In this 30-day challenge, you’ll focus on one small area at a time. Spend a little time on it each day, and you’ll gradually see your home gain more space and order.

Ready for the 30-day decluttering challenge?

Before you start, sort your belongings into four groups:

Keep – Items you use and want to keep at home.
Sell or give away – Items in good condition that you no longer need.
Recycle or dispose – Broken or unnecessary items that can no longer be used.
Store – Items you want to keep but don’t need on a daily basis.

Now you’re ready to get started!

Days 1–2: Start with the big picture

Day 1 – Set your goal

What do you want to achieve? More space, less clutter, or a home that’s easier to keep tidy? Write down your goal so you know what you’re working towards.

Day 2 – Clear the surfaces

Go through the kitchen counter, dining table, coffee table, and other surfaces where clutter tends to build up. Remove unnecessary items and find a place for the rest.

Days 3–10: Get the kitchen in order

The kitchen tends to accumulate more clutter than we realize. Focus on one area per day to keep the task manageable.

  • Day 3: Groceries and dry goods

  • Day 4: Fridge

  • Day 5: Freezer

  • Day 6: Glasses, mugs, plates, and cutlery

  • Day 7: Pots, pans, and kitchen utensils

  • Day 8: Small appliances and accessories

  • Day 9: Miscellaneous boxes

  • Day 10: Under-sink cabinet

Check expiration dates, remove unnecessary items, and think about what you really need. This will make it easier to keep the kitchen organized going forward.

Days 11–17: Clear out the closet

Next up is the closet. By going through one clothing category per day, the task won’t feel overwhelming.

  • Day 11: Clothes

  • Day 12: Coats and outerwear

  • Day 13: Hanging clothes

  • Day 14: Shoes

  • Day 15: Bags, backpacks, and suitcases

  • Day 16: Belts, scarves, hats, and jewelry

  • Day 17: Bedding and towels

Keep the clothes and items you use. Sell or donate clothes in good condition that you no longer need. For seasonal clothing and other rarely used items, consider separate storage space.

Days 18–21: Bathroom and laundry room

Small cabinets and drawers easily fill up with products we no longer use. Go through one area per day.

  • Day 18: Bathroom mirror cabinet and drawers

  • Day 19: Cosmetics, skincare, and hygiene products

  • Day 20: Laundry room and around the washing machine

  • Day 21: Medicine cabinet

Remove empty and expired products. Take expired and unused medications to the pharmacy for disposal.

Days 22–28: Tackle the easily forgotten spots

Next up are the small areas in your home where clutter builds up without you noticing.

  • Day 22: Papers, receipts, and notes

  • Day 23: Cleaning closet

  • Day 24: Hallway cabinets and drawers

  • Day 25: Books and bookshelves

  • Day 26: Old electronics

  • Day 27: Kids’ clothes

  • Day 28: Toys and other items

Ask yourself: Do we use this? Do we need this? Does this item have its own place?

Days 29–30: Finish organizing your home

You’re almost at the finish line!

Day 29: Go through the bedroom drawers and cabinets.

Day 30: Finish off the living room and dining room cabinets and drawers.

Once you’re done, take a look around and enjoy the result. The goal isn’t a perfect home, but a home where everything has its place and daily life runs more smoothly.

What to do with items you want to keep?

Organizing your home doesn’t mean you have to get rid of everything.

Some items hold great sentimental value or may be useful even if you don’t use them every day. These might include heirlooms, furniture, seasonal clothing, sports equipment, and children’s items.
