STORAGE FOR INDIVIDUALS

Data Protection – Information for Customers

Pelican Self Storage Group (“Pelican Self Storage“, “we“, or “us“) may at any time store information regarding individuals and use it for various purposes. This information is intended for all persons, such as customers, who use Pelican Self Storage’s services and products. Information regarding individuals is referred to as “personal data“.

What kind of personal data does Pelican Self Storage store and use?

We receive personal data from individuals and other sources. The data can generally be divided into the following categories:

• identification data such as name, address, bank account details, and personal identity code,
• contact information such as email address and phone number,
• service and product information such as details about the services or products the person has purchased or used,
• communication data such as customer inquiries,
• segmentation data such as the reason why the customer needs storage space

Why do we store personal data?

We use certain basic personal data to provide products and services to individuals. When marketing our products, we may also use personal data for distribution purposes.

On what basis do we store and use personal data?

We may use personal data when there is a contractual legal basis for its use. For example, if a person purchases a service or product from Pelican Self Storage, their contact information may be used to process payment or deliver the product. In some cases, we request prior consent for the use of personal data. A person may at any time withdraw their consent for the collection, use, disclosure, or other processing of their personal data. In some cases, we may use personal data to comply with legal obligations affecting Pelican Self Storage or when Pelican Self Storage has a legitimate interest that justifies the use of personal data for a specific purpose.

Access to personal data by parties other than Pelican Self Storage

We may use third-party service providers for IT, logistics, and other administrative support (for example, parties providing distribution services or software and IT support). These parties may have access to personal data to the extent necessary to provide the service in question.

We may disclose certain personal data to transport and logistics companies for delivery purposes.
We may at any time disclose personal data between companies within the Pelican Self Storage Group if it is necessary to comply with legal requirements or to respond to inquiries from authorities.

Personal data may be disclosed to parties located outside the European Economic Area (“EEA”). In such cases, we ensure that the personal data is subject to measures that provide the same level of protection as EU data protection legislation (for example, the EU General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR).

How long is personal data stored?

Pelican Self Storage or other parties acting on our behalf store personal data only as long as it is necessary to fulfill our obligations and achieve the purposes for which the data was collected. Personal data is deleted from our registers or anonymized when it is no longer needed. Personal data contained in contracts, communications, and business correspondence may be subject to statutory retention requirements, which may require the data to be stored for up to 10 years. Other personal data is generally deleted no later than two years after the person’s last interaction and the termination of the business relationship. Longer retention periods may be applied to backups of personal data for security reasons. However, access to this personal data is strictly limited.

Video surveillance

Please note that if there is a surveillance camera in our store, footage of the customer may be recorded. Video surveillance is used solely for security reasons and to prevent and investigate crimes. For more information, please contact us using the contact details below.

i. Right of access: The data subject has the right to ask us whether we process personal data concerning them, and if we do, to request information about what personal data we have. We also have an obligation to answer questions about why we use personal data, what data we have, and to whom we have given access to the data. However, this right is not absolute, and the interests of other individuals may limit the right of access.

ii. Right to rectification: We are obliged, upon request, to rectify inaccurate personal data or complete incomplete personal data.

iii. Right to erasure (right to be forgotten): In some situations, we are obliged to delete personal data at the request of the person concerned.

v. Right to data portability: In certain situations, the data subject may have the right to receive the personal data concerning them that we have access to in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format. In such cases, they may have the right to transmit this data to another controller without hindrance from us.

vi. Right to object: In some situations, the data subject has the right to object to the use of their personal data. In such cases, we may have to stop using the personal data. Such a situation may arise, for example, when personal data is used for marketing or profiling.

Contact Pelican Self Storage:

We are happy to provide further information and respond to requests concerning the exercise of the aforementioned rights. Requests can be sent to Pelican Self Storage at: GDPR@pelicanselfstorage.com
