Pelican Vallila Instructions
On this page you’ll find instructions for arriving at the Pelican Vallila location, parking, and getting started with your storage unit. Access is conveniently managed through the Pelican Smart Access app.
1. Arriving at the location
Welcome to Pelican Vallila!
Our customer service is open weekdays from 10 AM to 6 PM and Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM, on the Kumpulantie side. In our store, you can purchase moving and packing supplies such as moving boxes, mattress covers, packing tape, and more. Come and take a look!
You can drive into the courtyard from Elimäenkatu 32 or Kumpulantie 17. If you arrive while customer service is open, the courtyard doors will open automatically.
At other times, you can open the doors using the Pelican Smart Access app.
2. Loading area/entrance
You can drive your car/trailer directly into the loading area, where you’ll also be sheltered from the weather.
The loading area can accommodate several cars at the same time.
Please note that parking in the loading area is only permitted while loading or unloading.
Once you’re done, please kindly move your car to the designated parking spaces by the wall.
3. Opening hours and the Pelican Smart Access app
You have access to your storage unit every day of the year from 5:30 AM to 10 PM, starting from the start date of your agreement.
To access your storage unit, you’ll need to activate the Pelican Smart Access app. We’ve sent you a text message to help you set up the app. The message includes a link to the app itself, as well as a code you can use to activate it. You’ll find instructions for using the app here:

4. Carts in the loading area
You can borrow pump trucks and utility carts from the loading area to help transport your belongings. Hand trucks are available for loan from the store.
The carts are not locked, and we kindly ask that you return them to their place after use. Carts may not be kept in your storage unit or taken off-site.
5. How to find your storage unit
Elevators are located on the sides of the loading area (units 2101-2338, 3101-3351, 4101-4351, and 5101-5341),
as well as in the corner of the courtyard, behind the roll-up door (units 100-172, 200-259, 1201-1212, 2403-2442, 3400-3456, and 4400-4462).
The first number of your storage unit indicates which floor it is located on. (For example, 3123 is located on the third floor.)
Once you reach the correct floor, you’ll find unit numbers and arrows in front of the elevator indicating which direction to go to find your unit.
6. Using your storage unit
Once you’ve found your rented unit, please double-check that you’re about to access the correct one. The unit number is located on the outside of the door.
Open the door by pulling the latch open. This releases the lock, and the door can then be opened.
There is a safety-approved cylinder lock with a key on the floor of the unit. Please note: Pelican does not keep spare keys for your lock.
Your unit is now ready for use.
7. How to open and lock the door of your storage unit
Closing the door:
Push the door shut and move the metal latch into place so that the door locks. (For roll-up doors, pull the door all the way down and make sure it’s fully closed so you can secure the latch.)
Make sure the tab on the cylinder lock is aligned with the lock. (See image 2: the dots on the lock facing each other.) Insert the lock into the lock housing and turn the key counterclockwise. Remove the key, and the lock should stay in place. Double-check that the door doesn’t open.
Opening the door:
Turn the key to the right and pull the cylinder lock out of its housing. Move the metal latch aside, and you can now open the door.

At Pelican Vallila, you’ll find rental storage units for every storage need. Pelican Vallila is located in the Helsinki metropolitan area along Mäkelänkatu, between Elimäenkatu and Kumpulantie. You can drive into the courtyard and covered loading area from either Elimäenkatu or Kumpulantie. The location is easily accessible from Pasila, Sörnäinen, and Käpylä, as well as from throughout the Vallila and Alppila areas.
Pelican Vallila was Finland’s first Pelican Self Storage location, opened in 2010. It offers around 750 storage units to suit all kinds of needs, for both private individuals and businesses. All storage units are heated, and loads can be unloaded behind roll-up doors, sheltered from the weather. Businesses can also take advantage of an incoming shipment reception service. The storage units are open every day from 5:30 AM to 10 PM, so you can visit your unit whenever it suits you best.
